Becoming a freelance webmaster

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

The following paragraphs summarize the work of Freelancing experts who are completely familiar with all the aspects of Freelancing. Heed their advice to avoid any Freelancing surprises.

For some people, going freelance is the best way to start up a new career. And why not? By becoming a freelancer, you don’t have only one boss, you don’t have restricted working hours and schedule, and you won’t even have dress up and go to the office because you can earn money by working inside the confines of your own abode.

FINDING A WHOLE NEW WORLD

One of the industries wherein freelancing is highly in demand is being a webmaster. With the help of the Internet, more and more webmasters are given opportunities to find livelihood and projects. Delving into design and web developing as a professional and even as a part timer will require a certain amount of planning and preparation. If you are a webmaster or if you have background in web developing and you would want to work as a freelancer, here are some of the things you might want to consider.

1. Consider working on your own site. By now, you should be working on your own site because it is your shop front where people and potential clients would be looking at. As much as possible, your site should be free of errors and mistakes both in the code and the copy.

It should also be cross-browser compatible, easy to use, readable and at least formal or professional looking. If you already have a personal site, don’t use to promote your services as a web designer. It is best of you create or build a new site with a different domain dedicated in promoting your services as a web master or designer.

Most of this information comes straight from the Freelancing pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.

2. Start building your portfolio. Since you will promote your services virtually, it is advisable that you come up with a portfolio that will showcase the best of your work. If you are just a beginner in the world of freelance web designing, most freelance webmasters will suggest that you offer your services for free to voluntary groups that don’t have a site yet.

You can also build sites for your friends, relatives, and family members. By doing this, you can promote your services and talent to those who visit their sites.

3. Sell your portfolio. Aside from building good and reputable portfolio, you should do everything you can to build up your portfolio. By doing this, you can showcase you work while you gain experience in building sites.

4. Expect and accept that profit is some way off this early. Being a freelance webmaster can help you earn a lot?that is if you already have a stable and steady list of clients and a reputation in the field. Since you are just starting, don’t expect that projects will be rushing in this early. You are lucky if you get your paying clients this early. For the meantime, just continue building sites and who knows, potential clients will be inquiring about your services soon?

5. Keep a day job. Since you are just starting your career in the world of freelance web design, it is wise to keep a day just to sustain your financial needs. Although it may mean that you have to work double time, don’t worry because it will pay off soon as you get a paying client. If you can keep a day job and still maintain doing your freelance stint, then it will be better because freelance work by nature is unpredictable.

If you don’t get clients, giving up a regular pay check will only make your financial constraint worse. Even if you already have paying clients, it will still be a wise decision to keep a day job because it is ca safe fallback once you don’t develop a steady stream of income from part-time web developing. It is also advisable to use the early payments you have earned in doing freelance web design in other projects or by keeping it in a bank so you can use some of it when emergency comes.

Sacred Sites: Getting a Glimpse of Kauai Heiaus

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Ancient Hawaiian villagers used to be very religious people with many gods and goddesses. They frequently abided in religious laws, traditions and practices when doing virtually almost anything like planting and harvesting crops, going to war and delivering babies. Kauai heiaus or temples can be found in several areas of the island along with other old sacred relics and symbols. These remain as cultural attractions that continue to draw thousands of tourists all over the world.

Ancient Legends and Religious Stories

Kaula Laka Heiau is a sacred altar located among the Napali cliffs. It was originally built for Laka, the goddess of hula and is one of the most captivating spots with a majestic view of the cliffs and Pacific Ocean. Up to this day, the heiau is still used by hula halau. Kiki a Ola or Menehune Ditch is located 25 miles north of the Waimea River. According to ancient legends, the ditch was built in a single night by legendary little people or menehune to irrigate taro patches. At present, a 2-foot high portion of one of the walls still exists.

Halekuamano at Mana is a Kauai heiau located at Kalaipuaa. According to ancient folklore, the temple was built by the gods in a single night for a special tribal chief. Things and other accessories related to the hula used to be thrown in the area. Hauola Heiau is located at Hoea Valley, Waimea at the base of Hauola ridge. The temple has 2 divisions with remnants of two houses that used to stand on each side of the entrance. 4 to 8-foot high walls outline the temple. Upstream from Hauola, a natural amphitheater can be seen where worshippers used to hold meetings and other special events.

Prince Kuhio Park is the birthplace and home of the ?People’s Prince? or Prince Jonah Kalanianaole who was highly revered and loved by the Hawaiian people. Today, his house’s foundation, shrine and royal fishpond still exist. These used to be sites where priests or kahunas and villagers offered gifts, meditated and lived around in.

Truthfully, the only difference between you and Kauai Vacation experts is time. If you’ll invest a little more time in reading, you’ll be that much nearer to expert status when it comes to Kauai Vacation.

Alakoko Fishpond used to span 40 acres and was built inland on a river for a young Hawaiian chief. The remains are a 13 to 30-foot wall dividing the fishpond from the river. Holoholoku Heiau is believed to be the oldest temple in all of Kauai. Poliahu Heiau is located very near Opaekaa Falls featuring a large black lava rock. This used to be the personal temple of Kaumualii, the island’s last king.

More Kauai Heiaus and Foreign Temples

Hikinaakala Heiau is found in Waimea village and is one of the largest in the island. Sorcerors used to sacrifice animals and humans at the site featuring a grand view of the ocean. Howea was the main heiau in Waimea. Ancient legends say that Ola, a Hawaiian warrior whose mother was Kahapula was supposed to be sacrificed at the site. Some of the chants and religious rituals that Ola’s mother used were passed down among priests and other religious village leaders.

Kauai Soto Zen Temple is located at Hanapepe, South Kauai which is a Buddhist sacred place. Buddhism was believed to have been spread by Japanese workers who migrated to Hawaii to plant sugarcane. Other Buddhist temples still exist throughout the state. The temple is open to the public but visitors are required to remove their shoes before entering.

Aside from many Kauai heiaus, an Iravian temple also stands in the center of the 51-acre San Marga Sanctuary. This is an all-granite Hindu religious site situated by the Wailua River and at the foot of Mt. Waialeale. Hawaiians consider the location as holy and believe that it is 1 of the 7 ancient temples that descended to the Pacific Ocean from Waialeale.

Take time to consider the points presented above. What you learn may help you overcome your hesitation to take action.

Talking to Your Lasik Surgeon

Friday, August 27th, 2010

For anyone considering a Lasik procedure to correct vision, it is crucial to find a physician that is reputable and caring. It is also very important that they are experienced and knowledgeable in the Lasik procedure, and that they have a track record of patients that are happy with the treatment they received and the results that they got.

This guide gives a number of basic questions that you should ask when deciding on which Lasik center and which doctor to select for your Lasik procedure. The comfort you have during the process, and even the results that you receive, may depend on getting good answers to these questions. It is important to realize that the answers to these questions will vary from physician to physician.

The first question to ask is “How many years have you been performing this type of Lasik surgery?” There are several variations of the Lasik procedure, and the doctor should have a track record of at least three years in doing Lasik procedures. This amount of time also allows the doctor to watch his patients and the long term success of their Lasik procedures.

Next, ask the physician for the number of Lasik procedures they have performed in the last two years. The physician should do the operation frequently enough that he is well versed in current procedures. Also, he should be successful enough that prospective Lasik patients feel comfortable in coming to the Lasik center. The physician should perform at least 500 Lasik surgeries in the last two years.

The best time to learn about Lasik is before you’re in the thick of things. Wise readers will keep reading to earn some valuable Lasik experience while it’s still free.

At this point, ask what percent of his clients that underwent Lasik surgery ended up with 20/40 vision or better. Notice that not all patients will achieve 20/20 vision, and that is acceptable. However, it is important that 90 percent of the patients get at least a 20/40 correction after the first Lasik procedure. Claims of much more than 90 percent might make him seem much better, but in this case ask for evidence that that number is true. There are some exceptional physicians out there, but also a few Lasik doctors that make unfounded claims. Asking the doctor what percentage of Lasik patients achieve 20/20 should run about 50 percent. Again, if the number is greatly higher, ask for evidence.

Finally, ask about post-Lasik complications. The percentage of patients that experience complications after 6 months is complete should be 3 percent or less. If the physician claims that complications are so rare that he doesn’t keep records, you should be very suspicious and ask for evidence, if any. No doctor is perfect. Similarly, when asked the percentage of patients that require an additional operation to achieve clear vision, the number should be less than 10 percent.

To wrap up the interview, ask the physician what types of Lasik procedures he recommends and practices, and under what circumstances he denied a Lasik procedure to a patient. Not all vision challenged people are good candidates for a Lasik operation, and the doctor should at least have a few examples of people he dissuaded from the operation.

Finally, ask about the cost of the operation and if financing plans are available through the Lasik center. A physician that is willing to sit down and discuss these questions is often a physician that will address any other medical issues that come up, and is a good prospect to perform your Lasik procedure.

When word gets around about your command of Lasik facts, others who need to know about Lasik will start to actively seek you out.

Discover Peru With Orient Express

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

The following article lists some simple, informative tips that will help you have a better experience with Orient Express Trips.

Discover the beauty of Peru, a land richly loaded with geographical variety and get mesmerized with the panoramic landscapes to behold your sight. Travel now and take the Peru-Orient Express rail journey via its official train travel company, the PeruRail. PeruRail runs four individually different train services connecting some of the most spectacular parts of Peru. The main highlight of the tour includes that of the Andes.

The PeruRail Journey via Orient Express

PeruRail starts the rail journey from Cusco, a very historical place in Peru heading to Machu Picchu which is very popular for its ruins. The trip then goes on to several other beautiful places in the country. Passengers actually have the option to choose which journey route they prefer to take. Passengers’ choice of routes includes going from the very historic place Cusco to Machu Picchu, known as the Lost City of the Incas; or the Sacred Valley to renowned for its ruins Machu Picchu, or better yet, from Cusco to the awe-inspiring Lake Titicaca. Some even opt to start their journey from Puno to Lake Titicaca or to Arequipa as well as the Colca Canyon. But whichever route you choose, you are sure to find yourself gazing adoringly at the beautiful panoramic scenes laid before your very eyes.

PeruRail to Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain.

The only way you may get to Machu Picchu is through PeruRail with the train leaving from the historic Cuzco and Ollantaytambo. Otherwise, you will be forced to walk the Inca trail which might be too exhausting for you. Machu Picchu, called the Lost City of the Incas, is a living proof that indeed the culture of Peru is rich in Inca architecture. One of the greatest examples of the Inca architecture, and situated 2,350 meters above sea level, the Machu Picchu can be found about 112 km from the historic place Cuzco. Left in ruins, the place is enveloped by green forests believed to have been founded in the mid-15th century. However, the ruins were only discovered during 1911 when first seen by Hiram Bingham, an American explorer.

Budget Packages for Peru Escapades via Orient Express’ PeruRail

The trains offer a variety of traveling budgets. You may wish to ride a comfortable and yet functional rail car, then the Backpacker Train is the one most suitable for you. So if you consider yourself a light traveler or what is more popularly known as the backpackers, then go for the Backpacker Train. There are also the Vistadome trains that will give you amazing panoramic windows, making you catch a full glimpse of Peru’s natural beauty and lush scenes.

Another option would be to take the Andean Explorer which was made to look like the famous British Pullman carriages of the 1920′s. Or take the Hiram Bingham, named after the American explorer, which is another of Orient Express’ luxury trains committed to nothing else but perfect accommodation and service. Truly, Peru remains one of the most interesting destinations of the world!

Aquarium Care for Sand Sharks

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Have you ever wondered what exactly is up with Aquarium? This informative report can give you an insight into everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Aquarium.

Sand sharks are viewed as the most timid and least aggressive of the shark species. Sand sharks are usually smaller in size than other sharks and move fairly slowly. These sharks are found all over the Atlantic Ocean, and are the most common type of shark. Although these sharks would seem to be the perfect aquarium kept fish, because of their smaller size, they are not. They still grow to reach an average length of about five feet, and can weigh as much as three hundred pounds. This is really too large to keep in a home aquarium. The population of these sharks has dwindled in recent years, due to fishing activities. Therefore they are being considered for the endangered species list. It would be irresponsible to attempt to house one of these creatures, unless fully educated on their care needs.

Sand sharks adapt the best of all sharks to a captive environment. The types of aquariums that house these very large fish are usually public state supported aquariums. These facilities have the resources to build large enough tanks to house the sharks. Sand sharks can be kept in a tank with other large fish. The sharks are usually fed three to four times a week to discourage them from eating tank mates. For the most part this works well, although, every so often some of the fish seem to disappear. When housing sharks, care should be taken to ensure there is adequate space for swimming. Sharks by nature cruise the open waters. When visiting a public aquarium, notice sand sharks tend to be constantly moving, while some of the other fish just hang out in the tank.

The information about Aquarium presented here will do one of two things: either it will reinforce what you know about Aquarium or it will teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

A good alternative for a sand shark in a home aquarium is the catfish shark. Although labeled as a shark because of their dorsal fins, these creatures are much smaller. They usually grow to be about a foot long. They will still need a larger tank with plenty of space, because they too will have a cruising nature. These fish, like true sharks will eat just about anything that will fit in their mouths. Therefore be careful not to house it with smaller fish. The catfish shark should be kept in a tank with brackish water. Brackish water is more difficult to maintain because it is a mixture of both salt and freshwater. In the wild these fish live in areas where ocean waters meet streams or rivers. The Albemarle Sound is an example of brackish water.

The same general type of equipment is required for brackish water and saltwater aquariums as fresh water. It is a good idea to upgrade filters and heaters, however, because saltwater and brackish water fish are more sensitive to water irregularities. Sharks are accustomed to a darker environment, so it is not necessary to have a lot of lighting. Sand sharks have the same basic care requirements as most other fish. They need, and adequate food source, regulated water and an environment that would be similar to their natural habitat.

This article’s coverage of the information is as complete as it can be today. But you should always leave open the possibility that future research could uncover new facts.

The first step in asking for a referral is to do a damn good job that people will want to refer you to another. Although writing is big business, the industry is actually pretty small. Chances are your boss in one project will also know someone who is doing a similar project. Ask for a recommendation to another person who is in need of a writer or better yet ask them if they know someone who might be looking for a freelance writer. This is one way to get assignments.

Write well

The key to having a great freelancing career is to take care of your reputation not only in terms of your writing but also in the way you deal with people. For instance, you can write so well but if you are always late in passing your assignments, no person would want to deal with you. Remember that writing involves deadlines and you have to keep up with it if you want to really stay in the industry.

So now you know a little bit about Freelancing. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.
